My first 8 hours of Mortal Online were not in-game, but in the updater. Those 8 hours perhaps have given me a stomach ulcer. I was inches away from counting my losses and not even bothering with trying to get into this game when the download finally finished.
I launched and went into the character creation menu, which surprised me to have been so deep. There are so many choices that I could have done, but with that said, a friend of mine pointed out that most noobs would have no idea the impact that these races will have on your character. I a miner and was lucky enough to have read the forums before creating my character and experimented with the creation menu until I found the best stats I could manage to create.
I was lucky enough to have been recruited into Black Sect. soon after wandering around the starting area. That, I think, is the key to why I enjoy this game so much. If you are playing by yourself, then you are likely to be misguided and have a much harder time learning this game. Right away I feel like I'm a part of a project as we begin building a high quality house next to our Guild House around a secluded lake.
The game feels as if we're colonizing something new, even if every inch has been explored, as a guild mate said. There are secrets remaining across the world that people have not yet discovered.
Above all, though, I can feel the promise that this game has. No matter how technically impaired the game currently is, it's still an amazing game. I can't imagine how cool it will be when it organically grows into a polished product.
Great game. I seemed to have joined at the right time as the Epic patch is coming out very shortly.
